How to Accurately Estimate Wall Paint Requirements

Buying too much paint leaves you with expensive leftover cans that deteriorate in storage, while underestimating causes inconvenient trips back to the paint store mid-project. Our paint estimator calculates net wall square footage by subtracting openings for doors (~21 sq ft each) and windows (~15 sq ft each).

Standard Coverage Constants

As a rule of thumb, one gallon of quality interior paint covers approximately 350 to 400 square feet on smooth drywall. Textured walls, raw drywall primer coats, or deep color changes may require extra volume.
